Attention all bird and kayak enthusiasts! The St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center’s Outdoor Encounters program invites you to join us on our annual Deveaux Bank Birding and Kayak Trip for 2026! The 3-hour tour will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2026, starting at 12:00 PM and ending around 3:00 PM.
The trip includes paddling with tandem or single sit-on-top kayaks from St. Christopher’s beach on Seabrook Island to Deveaux Bank, with around 1 hour of exploring and birding along Deveaux’s intertidal zone. Deveaux Bank is one of the premier seabird sanctuaries north of Florida with thousands of birds nesting and migrating through every year. An assortment of species – including American white pelicans and piping plovers – frequent the bank’s shores. Because of Deveaux’s importance, we ask that all guests adhere to SCDNR regulations by staying below the high tide line not designated as a nesting area.
Spots are limited on a first-come, first-serve basis and as such, you may be placed on a waitlist. The cost is $85 per person. Lunch is not provided. If you are interested in joining us for the 2026 trip, please fill out this form to register!

As Deveaux Bank’s intertidal zone only opens for landing between October 15 and March 15, we select our tour date for late October based on tidal and current conditions. Although we target late October because of more favorable weather, this tour is weather-dependent, and low air temperatures, low water temperatures, wind, storms, or other natural events may force cancellation. We cannot guarantee a make-up date in the event of cancellation. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we ensure the safest experience possible!
A signed waiver form and completed kayak health questionnaire are required to participate.
